It is the goal of this website that, through a brief academic literature review and analyzing a slew of media-based articles, a greater understanding of the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on marginalized demographics of students based on revisioned understandings of space and place. The main component of this website involves a podcast with supporting literature available for listeners to read.
Since the evolution of the higher education system in the United States, it is evident that the system was intended for the perceived "traditional" white college student. As a result, campus spaces around the country can bring about unwelcoming and inequitable spaces for those whom the system was not intended to serve.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began in the spring of 2020, all higher education institutions worldwide were forced to shut down campuses and operate remotely. As a result, what campus spaces and places look like has been drastically revisioned.
Based on current research, it is evident that great senses of belonging and more equitable student support resources are significant indications of college student retention and eventual degree completion. Institutions or higher education must embody the revisioned views of campus space and place moving forward in order to serve best all students moving forward.
